Projektarbeit ist wissensbasiert und „funktioniert“ somit etwas anders als klassische Industriearbeit. In Projekten ist es daher wichtig, Wissen zu übertragen, eben Wissenstransfer zu leisten. Doch ist oft unklar, was unter Wissenstransfer zu verstehen ist:
Knowledge transfer is the methodical replication of the expertise, wisdom, insight, and tacit knowledge of key professionals into the heads and hands of their coworkers. It’s more than just on-the-job training. In organizational theory, knowledge transfer is the practical problem of transferring knowledge from one part of the organization to another. Knowledge transfer seeks to organize, create, capture, or distribute the “know-how” of the most expert in a field and ensure its availability for future stakeholders (PMI Institute 2015:6)
Dieses angesprochene Know-How ist also eher als implizites Wissen (oder auch Expertise) zu verstehen. Es wird an diesem Beispiel deutlich, an was modernes Wissensmanagement im Projektmanagement oft hapert: Wissensmanagement im Projektmanagement ist noch zu sehr auf den Umgang mit expliziten Wissen fokussiert. Das ist allerdings nicht verwunderlich, da das Management oft nicht weiß, wie mit impliziten Wissen umgegangen werden soll.
